BOSS BEAUTIES AND BARBIE ANNOUNCE GLOBAL CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT AND EMPOWER THE NEXT GENERATION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS
NEW YORK, NY (October 11, 2022) – Today, Boss Beauties, the woman-led global brand backed by Offline Ventures, Board Member Randi Zuckerberg, Serena Ventures, Female Founders Fund, and global ad agency Wieden+Kennedy has rejoined forces with Mattel, Inc.’s Barbie brand to announce their powerful International Day of the Girl partnership, which includes a collection of digital collectibles designed to inspire the next generation of leaders and dreamers, set to debut later this year.
Boss Beauties and Barbie are pairing the familiar signature style of Boss Beauties with the iconic Barbie look, to create 15,000 one-of-a-kind Barbie NFT portraits for collectors to buy and trade. Each NFT will feature Barbie careers in celebration of the brand reaching 250 careers represented in their line since 1959. Career traits will range from astronaut to archeologist, beekeeper to CEO and everything in between reminding girls they can be anything.
“Barbie is the original girl empowerment brand. From CEO to chef to scientist, we’ve been reminding girls everywhere that they can be anything for the past six decades,” said Lisa McKnight, Executive Vice President and Global Head of Barbie & Dolls, Mattel. “As we celebrate over 250 careers represented in the Barbie line timed to International Day of the Girl, we are proud to bring some of these careers to life in a new way through our digital art collaboration with Boss Beauties, which celebrates our shared passion to champion the next generation of female leaders.”
“As a young girl that grew up playing with Barbie, it is a special honor to work together now as a business owner and entrepreneur. Never in my wildest dreams would I have thought I’d someday have the courage to dream big and start a company that would later collaborate with Barbie to inspire girls worldwide.” said Lisa Mayer, CEO and Co-Founder of Boss Beauties. “This collection of digital art perfectly connects the two brands through Barbie’s signature style and Boss Beauties looks. It is also so important for us to announce this on International Day of the Girl as the heart of our brand is about supporting women and girls to be everything they want to be!”
Leading up to the launch date, Barbie and Boss Beauties will host a series of virtual mentorship sessions, inviting girls around the world to hear from leaders from a variety of careers. Featured speakers include NASCAR driver and 2-time champion Julia Landauer, as well as Haile Thomas, a 21-year-old international speaker, writer, and wellness activist.
As part of the partnership, Barbie and Boss Beauties will donate $250,000 in honor of the 250 careers represented in the collection. Half will go to Barbie's Dream Gap Project, and the other half to the Boss Beauties Foundation, to empower the limitless possibilities of girls and women globally. The Barbie Dream Gap Project is a global initiative created to raise awareness around limiting factors that prevent girls from reaching their full potential. The Dream Gap Project provides resources, curriculum, skills development and leadership opportunities to girls between the ages of 5 and 10 in collaboration with global charitable organizations working every day to help remove barriers for these girls across the globe. Visit Barbie.com/DreamGap to learn more about the Barbie Dream Gap Project. The Boss Beauties Foundation is on a mission to make a difference providing mentorship programs and internships to women in High School and College, while funding scholarships for women in the community.
